Granny’s Chest
Granny had a hope chest which she had meticulously prepared with hopes, dreams and loving care throughout her maidenhood and carefully stored all her life and left to us as her legacy; we opened our granny’s trunk; and got lost in the old pictures and the beauties she has crafted:
We opened our eyes on a cool summer morning on white, soap scented sheets.
While kitchen was busy preparing for the day, we mingled with the kids who were playing joyfully on the street.
We washed up in the bathroom heated with the stove with sparkling fire, we wrapped and dried ourselves with flowing peshtemals.
We had our afternoon tea with the neighbors, served on handmade tablecloth.
Garden table was set with china from the cupboard and the carefully laid tablecloth; and sound of laughs were heard while the plates and glasses filled with treats.
We fell asleep, our heads on the colorful embroidered pillows over the sofa.
Then in our grandmother’s lap we were carried to the sweet-scented bed, and wrapped up in soft bedding.
With a smile on our faces, we let ourselves fell into another dream with peace and happiness.
